CoVE Projects 2003 – 2004
In 2003 – 2004 seven CoVE projects were supported by the LSC and delivered by the LSDA.
Sources of additional funding for CoVEs
This project identifies ways in which CoVE providers have gained funding in addition to CoVE funding. £27 million additional funding has been raised by the 33 CoVEs surveyed from sources such as; increased business, European social funding, donations of equipment, staff development and own investment.

CoVE construction project – continuation
This project has continued the work started in 2002 – 2003 on Technical Certificate frameworks and materials. Representatives from the four main craft areas have been working with ConstructionSkills (the Sector Skills Council) developing and piloting materials. The first materials for Painting and Decorating have been distributed to all CoVEs in hard copy and cd format. The remaining crafts ( Carpentry & Joinery, Plastering and Bricklaying ) should be ready for CoVEs in September. In the autumn term we hope to be able to arrange for dissemination of these materials and discussions around teaching and learning strategies for their effective delivery to be organised for all construction providers. The DfES Standards Unit have been aware of and supportive of the project from the beginning.
Dissemination, staff skills and impact – Continuation
This project is a second stage of the 2002 – 2003 work. It has looked at ways of encouraging/developing those activities that should make a difference with an emphasis on how we measure impact.
Dissemination, staff skills and impact – Continuation final report.
CoVE case studies
This project identifies and gives examples of ways of working that have been effective for CoVEs which could be transferred and tried by others. The report provides evidence of good practice across a number of areas.

Involving excluded groups
This project identifies good practice case studies of CoVEs who have managed to increase the numbers of traditionally excluded groups into their provision. The project concentrated on level 3 successes but also identified some effective work at level 1 and 2. The project includes examples related to ethnicity, gender and disability.

Provider recording of local LMI
Providers hold a great deal of information, gleaned from their local employers, but most do not have effective systems for recording this so that the information can be utilised by others within or outside of the organisation. This project has worked with a number of providers as they formalise their systems of recording employer related information. It has also involved working with Sector Skills Councils to examine how provider information can feed into and be of use to SSC Labour Market Information.

Sustainable development
This project explores the drivers and barriers which influence the introduction of sustainable development into the vocational curriculum. It highlights how CoVEs have used their capital funds to design and purchase more environmentally sustainable buildings and teaching equipment for creating new programmes.
