CoVE Research & Development reports

CoVE projects 2004 – 2005

The following projects will be taking place this year. We hope to have the reports available on the web site in September 2005.

Costing and charging commercial provision in CoVEs

This project will explore the factors that influence how costs are determined and policies developed to establish what/how employers are charged. It will also look at whether there are any sectoral influences affecting the way in which training is costed and charged.

Sustaining CoVEs

This project will explore with CoVEs and the LSC what strategies are effective in making them sustainable. It will look at how CoVEs manage to maintain both the capital and revenue expenditure which support activity. It will also explore whether there are any sectoral differences.

CoVEs are also involved in the following two projects led by Maria Hughes at the LSDA.

Employers' views on employer engagement

This project will consult with employers who are engaged in activity through the CoVE network and the Employer Training Pilot seeking their perspectives on best practice in securing employer engagement. The outcomes of the consultation will be considered in relation to the typology of employer engagement and current practice, with a view to producing a framework of advice on how to extend and improve employer engagement.

Responding to the needs of employers and employees

This project will consider what is already known and agreed about what constitutes best practice in responsiveness to the needs of employers and employees. Draft principles of responsiveness, reflecting skills demand and skills supply side perspectives will be drawn up in line with the requirements of the SSAs. Views on the appropriateness of the principles will be sought from employers, employees, providers and SSCs.
