LSN's Executive team

LSN’s executive team is made up of a Chief Executive and five Executive Directors

 

John Stone, Chief Executive
Prior to joining LSN, John was Principal of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College - one of the UK's largest colleges formed as a result of a successful merger in 2002. His previous career has taken him to Merton Technical College; Kilburn Polytechnic; Kingston College of Further Education; Bournemouth and Poole College and Swindon College where he was Vice-Principal.

Dean Cassar, Finance Director
Dean joined LSN from a national provider of outsourced business processes within the financial services sector, where he was Head of Finance for three years. Prior to this role, Dean was Finance Director for a corporate services company and an Operations Director for a finance training provider where he also lectured for all the major accountancy qualifications.

Justin Edwards, Information Services Director
Prior to joining LSN in 2006, Justin worked for the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) Northern Ireland where he had developed and deployed successfully quality improvement and leadership initiatives from 2002. Prior to joining LSDA, Justin worked for Angus College, North Down and Ards Institute and Queen’s University of Belfast, where he lectured in computers and acoustics.

Stephen Bartle, Business Development Director
Stephen joined the Further Education Development Agency (FEDA) in 1999 as Business Development Manager, where he was instrumental in FEDA’s and then LSDA’s growth during a period of sustained expansion. He was appointed Business Development Director for LSN in April 2006, with a focus on managing the organisation’s entry to a competitive market environment and diversifying the business. He previously worked as a management consultant at NJM, where he specialised in project funding.


Jill Lanning, Operations Director
Jill joined LSN from Edexcel, where she held the position of Head of Portfolio Management, responsible for shaping their offer of vocational qualifications. She was with Edexcel from 1996 to the formation of LSN, mainly on the BTEC side of the business. Prior to that, Jill spent some 15 years working in further education as a lecturer, manager and freelance consultant. In addition she was an active member of the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB), playing a leading part in their work on the development of qualification and credit frameworks.

Trevor Carson, LSDA Northern Ireland Director
Trevor joined LSDA in 2002 where he has been instrumental in successfully establishing LSDA Northern Ireland and has overseen its steady growth since May 2003. Prior to joining LSDA, Trevor was based at the Association of Northern Ireland Colleges (ANIC) for four years as Curriculum Development Officer, where he managed a range of curriculum development projects and other initiatives. Before joining ANIC, he taught at the Boys Model School in Belfast and the Belfast Institute for 18 years. Trevor also spent three and a half years as Development Officer at the Belfast Education and Library Board.
