The information that follows introduces the core team of the TEL Research Centre. However the virtual team is much larger, as we collaborate with many colleagues and consultants from agencies, universities and companies.

Jill Attewell manages the LSN’s Technology Enhanced Learning Research Centre. Her role involves designing and managing research and development projects and she has contributed to the implementation of UK national initiatives including the Quality in Information and Learning Technology (QUILT) staff development programme and the National Learning Network (NLN).
Jill's qualifications include a BA(Hons) in Business Studies and an MSc in Information Technology. She is a Chartered Information Technology Professional Member of the British Computing Society (MBCS CITP). Her ICT experience includes 10 years of project management, training and implementing MIS and EIS systems for ICL in the UK and the Far East. Jill joined the LSN (then FEDA) in July 1996 after 2 years as a Project Manager at the Microelectronics Educational Development Centre (MEDC) at Paisley University.
Between 2001 and 2004 Jill was the Programme Manager of the EC 5th framework research and development programme m-learning which explored, with partners, practitioners and learners in the UK, Italy and Sweden, the use of mobile phones and palmtop computers to engage young people in learning and help to develop their literacy and numeracy skills. Jill is a member of the organising committee for the international MLEARN conference series and co-chaired MLEARN2003 and MLEARN2004.
Jill is helping to establish a network of UNEVOC centres in the UK and is a member of the Education Committee of the UK National Commission for UNESCO. She is an observer on the Higher Education Funding Council’s Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)’s Organisational Support Committee (JCOS).

Carol Savill-Smith works as a researcher in the Technology Enhanced Learning research centre at the LSN, where she has principally worked in the field of mobile learning and computer games. Most recently, she has worked on a mobile learning project which allowed 19 teachers and tutors to be able to author or adapt mobile learning materials for he specific needs of their students in their particular context. The project report ‘Mobile learning in practice – piloting a mobile learning teachers’ toolkit in further education colleges’ will be available soon.
Her publications include:
- Computer games and simulations for adult learning – case studies from practice, co-authored with Sara de Freitas and Jill Attewell, published in December 2006.
- The use of computer and video games for learning – a review of the literature for the m-learning project, co-authored with Alice Mitchell, published in September 2004
- Learning with Mobile Devices – a book of papers of the MLEARN 2003 conference, co-authored with Jill Attewell, published in May 2004
- The use of palmtop computers for learning – a review of the literature for the m-learning project, co-authored with Phillip Kent, published in August 2003
Carol has a PhD from Brunel University about the use of palmtop computers for learning (her dissertation is entitled ‘Introducing Information and Communications Technology into the Secondary School Classroom: Pupils’ Experiences of Data Logging and its Impact on their Learning’). She is also a qualified teacher for the secondary/high school education sector, and has taught in a number of London-based Further Education Colleges

Rebecca Douch is a researcher for LSN, currently working alongside Carol Savill-Smith on the MoLeNET project. Rebecca has a first degree in Psychology and has previously worked as a researcher for the University of Kent. Her research focussed on social and developmental psychology, specifically investigating interpersonal relations and prejudice reduction. In addition Rebecca has a PGCE and has taught in both the primary and adult education sectors.

Guy Parker is the Research Assistant supporting the MoLeNET programme team and the TEL Research Centre. Guy has a degree in Economics and International Development from the University of Bath. He has experience providing research support at the Department of Trade and Industry and Amnesty International, as well as several years working as a tennis instructor.
