On 25th September 2018, the Robert Clack School opened a new food tech lab and a ‘Constructionarium’ as part of a £43.75 million redevelopment scheme.

Pupils at the school in Gosford Road, Dagenham, also benefitted from 12 new classrooms, a new kitchen, and extended dining hall facilities.

Upon completion, former pupil and current headteacher Russell Taylor explained that the new classrooms will enable students and teachers to continue to strive for excellence. Recanting the school motto – For the brave, nothing is difficult – Mr Taylor went on to praise the team for delivering the project in just seven months.

The project was undertaken by leading regional construction company the Mid Group, with Be First charged with overseeing operations. Darren Cutts of Be First explained that he was particularly pleased to see the inclusion of a Constructionarium. Mr Cutts pointed out that the UK is currently experiencing a shortage of skilled workers, particularly brick layers and carpenters. He praised the school for providing a specially adapted environment to promote much needed skill-based lessons.

In October 2018, work commenced on this £26 million project. The new school will feature a sports hall, two multi-purpose games areas, and 42 classrooms to cater for 1,350 new pupils.

The new facilities will form part of the Robert Clack School. Operating from a new location, it will build on the school’s long-established record of helping build the skills and confidence of its pupils so that they are successful in whatever career path they choose to follow.

Again, the project is a collaboration between Be First and the Mid Group. Darren Cutts pointed out that the partnership will lay the foundations for a better future in Barking and Dagenham.
