Creating a design

If you are struggling to come up with an idea or a design, it is best to carry out some research to see what the bestselling items are in your niche.  We are not saying you should copy ideas but it will at least given you an idea as to what sells and what does not.

Another option is to look at Google Hot Searches or Google Trends.

If this still fails hire a designer!  It takes some skill to convert your ideas into a design.  You can take advantage of software such as Adobe Photoshop but you will already need some experience in designing in order to use such software.  Don’t be afraid to ask for some help.

There are plenty of tools on the internet to assist you in finding a suitable graphic designer that can turn your design into a reality.  What are you waiting for?  Take a look now you might be pleasantly surprised.

Have you heard of Dribbble?  It is an online community where there are plenty of designers waiting to hear from you.  Do a quick search for style and message those designers you are interested in working with.

Another designer community to check out is Behance.  Or try freelance networks such as Elance and Freelancer.

The point to be made is there is plenty of choice available to you.

Buy a design

If all else fails and you cannot find a designer there is the option of purchasing a pre-made design.  It is worth bearing in mind if you choose to go down this route the design is likely to be available to a multitude of companies.  The design will not be unique to you and therefore cannot be used as your unique selling point.  If you want to stand out from the crowd you will need to look for another selling point.

How to market your design

When you are in a position and are happy with your final design the next step is to get a mockup to see what it looks like on a real t-shirt.  This is the exciting part as you experience seeing your hard work in action.

You can do this a number of ways such as ordering a sample or taking the photography yourself.  If you want to do it yourself Adobe Photoshop have plenty of t-shirt templates for free.  This will allow you to quickly see what your t-shirt will look like.  The only downside to this is you cannot physically see what the t-shirt will look like.  Sometimes it is best to see the physical t-shirt, after all this is what you will be selling to your customers.

If Adobe Photoshop is not the software for you there are plenty of web based mockups that will enable you to do the same thing as Photoshop.

Getting your shop set up

You are ready to start building your very own store now you have your t-shirts completed.  As previously mentioned setting your store up on Shopify is a very simple process.
