THE SKILLS FOR LIFE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME 2008-09

The QIA Skills for Life Improvement Programme can help your organisation improve the experiences of your learners and reach achievement targets by improving the quality of literacy, language and numeracy provision across your organisation.

You are invited to get involved with the Skills for Life Improvement Programme 2008-09. This aims to help providers to embed literacy, language and numeracy skills through a whole organisation approach and to develop their capacity for self-improvement. Support will involve an initial visit to define your organisation’s needs and priorities; ongoing consultancy support for planning and implementing changes within your organisation; participation in peer working groups; in-house CPD events, and a final consultancy visit to assess impact and identify next steps.

Who is it for?
The Improvement Programme and will prioritise applications from providers who fulfil one or more of the following criteria.

Providers who:

  • have recently been awarded LSC contracts and who may be new to Skills for Life
  • have identified a need to improve their Skills for Life provision, for example, post inspection
  • have LSC contracts for delivering
    • Skills for Life within Train to Gain
    • employability skills programmes
    • offender learning
  • are working with:
    • those in employment who need to improve skills
    • those who are not in employment, education or training (NEET)
    • learners below Level 2 in literacy, language and numeracy
  • are focusing on developing their capacity to deliver effective numeracy programmes.

Application are being accepted now. Demand is likely to be high and there will be limits on the numbers of providers involved, so please apply early.
